Saturday Sept 12th saw the 28th Celebrating our 100th Birthday at our Headquarters in Downend, what a day it turned out. After a Summer of uncertain weather we were blessed with an Indian Summer Scorcher.
The festivities began at 1pm with 200 plus Boys, Parents,Leaders, invited guests, and Our County and District Commissioners all enjoying a ceremony to commemorate everyone who over the years had contributed to the success of our Group. We had speeches, presentations, and the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the event. This was unveiled by Mr John Ivory who has worked for the Group for over forty years. After the Formal side of the day. Everyone was invited to the Buffet Lunch, we all ate until we were full, All of our elderly Scouts of 50 years ago and more and returning to us from as far away as Spain, Ireland, and Scotland, had lots to catch up on and wasted no time in doing so. Many of them had not met for all of that time and it was a pleasure to see them all so happy. It was a privilege to see them all with us and it would not have been the same without them. In all it was a fantastic Day and a fitting event to celebrate 100 years of Scouting at the 28th. Thank you to all of the Leaders, and Helpers, who organised and ran the day. The overwhelming feeling was that we had done the 28th proud . Heres to the next 100 years.
